British International
Excel Tutor Hub provides online tuition for British International curriculum. Our experienced tutors are either subject professionals or qualified teachers, specialists in their subjects.
Generally, we advise families embarking on the secondary school pathway to plan the International GCSE journey over 18 months to 2 years. Reserve one semester (about 5 months) at the end of this period for revision and practicing LOADS of past papers. Divide up the subject’s syllabus over the remaining weeks (usually about 40 weeks for one academic year or 60 weeks for an 18 month programme). International GCSE students are advised to spend at least 150 guided learning hours to complete the material successfully. This translates to roughly 5 hours per week, over one academic year. For an average workload of about six International GCSE subjects, students should need to put in about 30 productive hours per week. AS subjects require a recommended minimum of 180 guided hours. This calculates at a minimum of about 8 hours per week per subject.
During the revision and exam prep semester, students must work through the learning material a second time. It is essential to refer to the Syllabus to ensure the student masters every topic that could be examined. Be particularly vigilant to ensure the student is referring to the correct version of the Syllabus – they vary from year to year – and they are using an up-to-date textbook. The examinations require the student to have a deep understanding of the material and be able to apply their knowledge.
